Maths Time!

Number knowledge forms about 80% of our maths learning in Year 1. We integrate
Maths knowledge, language and concepts throughout the day whenever the opportunity arises-
* calendar maths to start each day     *taking the roll
*counting characters in a book            *learning numbers in Te Reo Maori

You can help at home by encouraging your child to: write numbers correctly, count forwards and backwards, play maths games, read numbers when you're in the car.
We love maths - and the great thing is... IT'S EVERYWHERE!!

Phonics in Room 2

A huge part of our early learning in Rm 2 is the recognition of graphemes (letters) and their associated phoneme (sound). We use Yolanda Soryl's Phonics  as the basis of our programme. For the first 14 weeks, we focus on 'Stage 2' to ensure knowledge is embedded. From there, children are extended as needed.
