Welcome back!

Wow - term 2 has arrived! I hope everyone had a great holiday and recharged the batteries :) We have a really busy term coming up (what's new?) with some exciting things planned, including a special visitor and a trip!! But more on that later. As you know - next Saturday is ANZAC Day. We touched on the meaning and significance of ANZAC at the end of last term, and used it as an introduction to our Inquiry Island model. After watching a short you-tube clip about ANZAC, the children had some questions they wanted to know the answers to; * What does ANZAC stand for? * How did the soldiers die? * Why do we wear poppies on ANZAC Day? We will be revisiting these questions and our answers this week in the lead up to ANZAC Day. Maybe you could continue with the conversation at home (if you haven't done so already).

Life Education

The Life Education truck has rolled into Matarau School this week, and Room 2 were the first visitors into the classroom. We had a great session with the amazing Nadine, learning all about what our body needs to stay healthy and the location of our heart, lungs and brain. To finish the session, we got to meet Harold the Giraffe and give him a little pat.

Pammy Princess

We were lucky enough to have Pammy Princess spend the afternoon with us today. After she read us a story, we showed her how awesome we are in the pool! Thanks for coming, Pammy.

Maths - comparing

Today we were comparing ourselves - eye colour and height. We discovered the majority of Room 2 children have brown eyes and green was the least common colour. Have a look at the graph we created next time you come into the classroom. Next - we tried to put ourselves in order from the shortest to the tallest. Do you think we succeeded??

Discovery Time

Discovery Time started last Friday morning. Normally on a Friday morning, Rooms 2 and 3 combine for a big session of Discovery Time. This time, however, we had a small session to get used to the idea. After 2 very busy weeks, I think all of us enjoyed the chance to relax a bit and take charge of our own learning.

Welcome back everyone after a lovely long weekend. It was great to hear that so many of you did exciting things. Wow - we certainly hit the ground running today. We started our full writing programme in earnest, with EVERYONE writing something about themselves. We'll be drawing some self portraits over the next few days and these pieces of writing will accompany them. Keep a lookout for those. We also started instructional reading groups - I was so impressed with how quickly everyone picked up the idea of the 'pointing finger'. We need to make sure we point to every word as we read our story, to help make the connection between the written and spoken word.
